Camus Restaurant use Vintage Edison Globes in Northcote

Camus Restaurant use Vintage Edison Globes Northcote Victoria. Luckily we are only a handful of suburbs away and so we popped in for a meal to see how the place was going.

Camus Restaurant is the brainchild of Pierre Khodja. Pierre and his team have used amber glass shades, E40 Vintage Goliath bulb pendants and our small spiral tube wall lights to great effect. The mood is warm and intimate with three distinct styled areas.

Entry is through a cosy bar/lounge area with  exposed brick walls, wooden finishes and our E40 Barebulb Pendants and Amber Glass Pendants over the bar.

The bar opens onto a dining area with open plan viewing of the kitchen.  We especially loved the victorian ceiling rose with a beautiful clustered display of our Amber Glass Pendants.

Access to the formal dining area upstairs is via a restored wooden staircase.  A feature chandelier of a range of our incandescent bare bulb pendants  illuminates the staircase.  The upstairs dining area contrasts with below with its contemporary clean aesthetic.  We have fallen in love with the LED pendant so watch this space…….

The place can seat around 100 with more room upstairs and a courtyard. The menu is based on the simple, generous Algerian food of Pierres childhood, but it is brought bang up to date with a combination of classical technique (stints at Michelin-starred London restaurants Ma Cuisine and Bistrot Bruno Loubet before landing in Australia in 2001) and a determinedly light touch (less oil and butter, shorter cooking times). Simple? Even apparently straightforward dishes get a cheffy flourish or three.
