Vintage brass ships enclosed pendant comes from the ship breaking yards in Bangladesh. It is a solid Brass shade with cast aluminium top and glass frame. Designed to be secured by chain from a ceiling hook. This is an original ships component having been rewired as 240V and earthed using our  E27 Brass Lamp holder. Comes with waterproof glass cover with brass surround and screw opening mechanism in order to change light bulbs.  Reflector on this light is solid polished Brass which is a little bent up from years at sea. We recommend a light polish with Brasso after installation to remove finger prints and an occasional polish from then on. These have have rough service and are perhaps a little more knocked around than most, there are dents in the brass that provide the authentic patina. If you are not happy with this surface please do not order expecting perfection.

This light weighs 4.5 kilos and so a chain and shackle or stainless wire type suspension should be used. We can include special cable and hardware for this purpose.

The reflector is lightly rubbed and polished Brass both inside and out and so gives an incredible “Heat Ray” effect when seen as a focused beam under the light. It does provide a certain degree of directional light and would be suited to lighting a table or bench.

Vintage ship lighting

Ship breaking or ship demolition is a type of ship disposal involving the breaking up of ships for scrap recycling. Most ships have a lifespan of a few decades before there is so much wear that refitting and repair become uneconomical. Ship breaking allows materials from the ship, especially steel, to be recycled. Equipment on board the vessel can also be reused. This is a great way to obtain the highest quality solid brass lighting components for use in industrial style design. All lamp parts show their age in a wonderful polished patina, some have more marks than others but all are acceptable wear for age. This light is made to be extremely rugged to resist damage at sea from rough use and weather conditions. It can now used in kitchens and hotels where a focused beam is useful and a bulb shatter protection is required.

We have a number of these that are close to matching patina but we cannot guarantee they will be available again once they are sold. Comes complete with E27 lampholder wired to a length of cable of your choice. Chain can be ordered separately or standard industrial chain added. Any bulb will fit but E27 bulbs available separately.
