Product Description

Brass Coventry Wall Insulator No42 Amber E14 fitting, 24O V, 4A with antique bronze body, ceramic insert and insulated thread and screw terminals. Comes with 1/2″ threaded hollow arm and wall plate for installation to wall surface. The telephone Insulator is attached to the lampholder using the 10mm top thread and bronze coupler. Locking mechanism means the body cannot be unscrewed accidentally when changing the bulb.

The Hemingray Glass Company operated factories in Kentucky and Indiana between 1848-1972 and was the largest manufacturer of glass insulators in the world. The Hemingray 42 was one of Hemingray’s most popular and prolific insulators. These were manufactured by the millions, so most are extremely common. Those “bumps” at the bottom of the insulator are called drip points. Hemingray patented drip points on May 2, 1893 as “teats” for drawing moisture off of the insulator. Hemingray produced two styles of drip points, sharp and later round drip points. This one features sharp drip points. Whilst there are many examples of insulators and they are becoming a unique collectable, this style is so common as to make re-purposing an interesting proposition. Whilst they are common in the USA they are hard to come by in sets of similar color from Australia. Due to the fact that these insulators are over quite old and have been in use atop a power pole, they are not perfect. Small chips and scratches may be visible in some examples. The dark amber color of this insulator is not a genuine color and so we have gone to great lengths the create this insulator for lighting purposes. It is molded in solid amber glass in the same way the original was made but without the internal glass thread. This allows the lampholder to sit further into the glass leaving room for larger bulbs.

Wired with 3 core cable and a brass plated E14 lampholder, the bulb fits just inside the glass.
For 120Volt use we use an E12 Bakelite socket, wiring and 3″ J-Box cover. Components are UL Listed but the whole fitting is not.

Most E14 bulbs will fit this lamp.
Bulb is not included. Recommended bulbs are listed below.
