Brass Ships Oval Caged Bulkhead Light for use as 240V E27 solid brass lamp holder. Salvaged from 1950’s era ship this is solid brass with rough cast appearance and aged glass cover. Brass Ships Oval Caged Bulkhead Light can be fitted to walls or ceilings by the 4 mountings that are bolted into position. Power is by conduit connection and so some fiddling with elbows may be required for a clean installation. They can be connected to external mounted conduit for an authentic look. We suggest brass and copper water pipe fittings to match the look and feel. It is a solid brass light designed to be secured directly to the ceiling in areas where there is no height for a pendant. This is an original ships component having been refitted as 240V and earthed using our 10mm threaded entry E27 Brass Lamp holder.
The two wingnuts when undone provide a hinge for the brass cage which had a rubber sealed glass dome in thick old glass. Bulbs are replaced through this front hinged cage. These were originally stamped IP64 but re polishing has removed the mark. They would be considered by us to be IP Rated with careful attention when installing however.
Ship breaking or ship demolition is a type of ship disposal involving the breaking up of ships for scrap recycling. Most ships have a lifespan of a few decades before there is so much wear that refitting and repair become uneconomical. Ship breaking allows materials from the ship, especially steel, to be recycled. Equipment on board the vessel can also be reused. This is a great way to obtain the highest quality solid brass lighting components for use in industrial style design. All lamp parts show their age in a wonderful polished patina, some have more marks than others but all are acceptable wear for age given these are from Japanese ship building made after the war.
We have a number of these that are matching designs but we cannot guarantee they will be available once they are sold.
