The Woodsman’s Treehouse

We are lucky to be involved in lots of interesting projects here at Edison. A recent favorite of ours is The Woodsman’s Treehouse in West Dorset, United Kingdom.

The Woodsman’s Treehouse is a totally private and unique experience set high up in the branches of a veteran oak. The ultimate retreat. A stylish combination of sustainable craftsmanship and luxurious interiors with a playful touch; highlights include your own sauna and hot tub on the upper deck, a revolving woodburner, an open air tree-shower and a stainless steel slide.
In such a magical setting, it can only be described as ‘Utopia’: uninterrupted vistas through the tree canopy across an enchanted Dorset woodland.

Guy Mollison is the mastermind behind this unique and beautiful place. Guy is a cabinetmaker and furniture designer by trade and his masterful eye can be seen in the interiors of the treehouse. The colour palette of raw wood, copper and black is the perfect back drop for our vintage ship lights and custom black plumbing pipe lights. Outside suspended around the deck our low voltage festoon lights add ambience while guests enjoy the hot tub or sauna.

The ship lights add an interesting layer to the interior with their age old stories. Salvaged from the massive ship breaking yards in India these 1950’s era lights are solid brass and show their age in a wonderful polished patina from years at sea. We can see why these were the perfect choice to sit alongside the beautiful copper bath. The adjustable brass wall lights that would of originally been designed as a light for reading navigation charts on board ships is a lovely touch over the dinner table.

The building of the treehouse was quite a project and has been documented on the UK series George Clarkes Amazing Spaces due to air on UK TV on the 22nd September 2016. Visit the website for all the details about the build along with accommodation bookings. It’s definitely going on our bucket list!
