1. The information we collect

The personal information we collect depends on how you deal with us. It may include:

  • Contact and identity details such as your name, email address, phone number, billing address and delivery address.
  • Order information such as the products you buy, order history, delivery instructions, tracking details, returns, warranty claims and refunds.
  • Import and delivery information such as the details required on customs and shipping documents for an international delivery.
  • Account information such as your username, password (stored in encrypted form), saved addresses and saved preferences.
  • Business information if you apply for a wholesale or trade account, including your business name, trading address and the details of the people we deal with at your business.
  • Payment information such as the payment method and a partial card number or transaction reference. We do not see or store your full card number. See section 4.
  • Support and correspondence, being the content of your emails, support tickets and enquiries, and any attachments you send us.
  • Reviews and feedback that you choose to submit, including ratings, photos and the display name you publish them under.
  • Marketing preferences, being whether you have subscribed to our emails and whether you have opened or clicked them.
  • Technical and usage information such as your IP address, approximate location derived from it, device and browser type, the pages and products you view, referring website, and the dates and times of your visits.

We do not seek to collect sensitive information, such as health, racial, biometric or political information, and ask that you do not send it to us. We do not knowingly collect Social Security numbers or government identity numbers.

2. How we collect it

We collect most personal information directly from you, when you place an order or start a checkout, create an account or apply for a wholesale account, subscribe to our emails, contact us by email, contact form or support ticket, submit a review, a warranty claim or a return request, or browse the website.

We also receive information from third parties who help us run the business, such as payment providers confirming that a payment succeeded, carriers reporting delivery and customs status, and an address verification service that suggests valid postal addresses as you type.

3. Why we use it

We use personal information to:

  • process your order, take payment and ship your goods, including clearing them through customs;
  • send order confirmations, invoices, dispatch notices and tracking updates;
  • create and manage your account, including wholesale pricing where it applies;
  • handle returns, warranty claims, refunds and product safety matters;
  • answer your questions and provide customer support;
  • invite you to review a product you have bought, and publish reviews you submit;
  • send you marketing emails where you have asked to receive them;
  • understand how the website is used so we can improve it;
  • detect and prevent fraud, abuse and security incidents;
  • keep the tax, accounting, export and business records the law requires us to keep; and
  • resolve disputes and enforce our terms of sale.

If we want to use your information for a purpose that is not listed here and that you would not reasonably expect, we will ask for your consent first, unless the law requires or permits us to act without it.

4. Payment information

Card payments are processed by our payment providers, Stripe and PayPal. Your card details are entered into their systems and are not stored on our servers. We receive only enough information to identify the transaction, such as the payment method, the last four digits of the card, the amount, and whether the payment succeeded. Each provider handles your payment information under its own privacy policy.

5. Marketing and how to opt out

We send marketing emails only to people who have subscribed, or who have bought from us and would reasonably expect to hear about similar products. Every marketing email contains an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect promptly. You can also email [email protected] at any time and ask us to stop, or ask us not to use your information for profiling or targeted advertising.

Opting out of marketing does not stop transactional messages about an order you have placed, such as a receipt or a delivery notification.

6. Cookies, analytics and advertising

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep your cart and login working, remember your currency and preferences, measure how the site is used, and show you relevant advertising on other platforms. Some are set by third parties, including Google through Google Tag Manager, Meta, YouTube and Automattic, which provides our site statistics.

You can accept or decline non-essential cookies through the consent banner shown on your first visit, and change your choice at any time using the cookie settings link on the site. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser, though parts of the site may then stop working properly, and you can opt out of interest based advertising through the tools each platform provides, or by emailing us at [email protected]. Our Cookie Policy describes the cookies we use in more detail.

7. Who we share your information with

We do not sell your personal information for money. We share it with the service providers who help us run the business, and only for the purpose we gave it to them. Those providers fall into these categories:

  • Payment providers, being Stripe and PayPal, to take payment and process refunds.
  • Carriers, logistics and customs, being DHL and Australia Post and their delivery partners, who receive the name, address, phone number, email and package contents needed to ship your order, clear it through customs and arrange returns.
  • Website hosting and security, being our hosting provider and Cloudflare, which serves and protects the site.
  • Email delivery, being the provider that sends our transactional and marketing email.
  • Reviews, being CusRev (Customer Reviews for WooCommerce), which sends review invitations after your order is delivered and collects the reviews and ratings you submit.
  • Address verification, being an address lookup service that checks and completes addresses at checkout.
  • Analytics and advertising, being Google, Meta and Automattic, as described in section 6.
  • Professional advisers, being our accountants, auditors and lawyers, where they need the information to advise us.

We may also disclose personal information where the law requires or permits it, including to comply with a court order, a subpoena or a regulator’s request, to enforce our terms of sale, to protect the safety of any person, or in connection with the sale or transfer of our business, in which case your information would pass to the new owner under this Policy.

8. Where your information is held

Because we are an Australian business, your personal information is held in Australia and is accessed by our staff there. If you are ordering from the United States or another country, this means your information is transferred out of your own country to Australia, and is handled under Australian law and this Policy.

Some of the providers listed in section 7 store or access data in other countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union and New Zealand. Where we disclose personal information across borders, we take reasonable steps to require the recipient to protect it to a standard consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles, normally through the contract we have with them.

9. How we keep your information secure

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. These include encrypted connections across the whole site, access controls and multi-factor authentication on our administrative systems, hardened login security, regular software updates and backups, and limiting staff access to what each person needs to do their job.

No system can be guaranteed to be completely secure, and information you send us over the internet travels at your own risk. If a data breach occurs that is likely to cause you serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as required by the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme, and we will meet any notification obligations that apply in your own state or country.

10. How long we keep it

We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes described in this Policy, or for as long as the law requires. In practice:

  • order, invoice, export and tax records are kept for at least seven years, as required by Australian tax law;
  • account details are kept while your account is open, and are deleted or anonymised on request;
  • support tickets and correspondence are kept for up to two years after the matter is closed;
  • marketing subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe, plus a suppression record so we do not contact you again; and
  • website analytics data is kept according to the retention settings of the analytics provider.

When we no longer need personal information, we destroy it or de-identify it. Aggregated or anonymous data that cannot identify you may be kept indefinitely.

11. Accessing and correcting your information

You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct anything that is wrong, out of date or incomplete. Email [email protected] and we will respond within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity first. Access is free, although we may charge a reasonable cost if a request takes substantial work. If we refuse a request, we will tell you why in writing and explain how to complain.

You can also ask us to delete your account and the personal information attached to it. We will do so unless we are required to keep certain records, such as invoices for completed orders.

12. Children

Our website and products are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 as defined by the United States Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

13. If you live in the United States

Several states, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas and Virginia, give residents rights over their personal information. Where those laws apply to us, you have the right to know what personal information we have collected about you and why, to receive a copy of it, to ask us to correct it, to ask us to delete it, and not to be treated differently for exercising any of these rights.

We do not sell personal information for money. We do use advertising and analytics tools, described in section 6, which may count as “sharing” personal information for cross context behavioural advertising under California law. You can opt out of that at any time through the consent banner and the cookie settings link on this site, by blocking third party cookies in your browser, by using the opt out tools each advertising platform provides, or by emailing [email protected] with the subject line “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information”. We honour Global Privacy Control signals where our tools support them.

To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. We will verify your identity before acting on a request, and we will respond within the time your state law allows. You may use an authorised agent to make a request on your behalf. If we decline a request, you may appeal by replying to our response, and you may also complain to your state attorney general.

14. If you are in the EU or UK

If the General Data Protection Regulation or the UK GDPR applies to you, you also have the right to object to processing, to restrict processing, to receive your data in a portable format, and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting processing carried out before the withdrawal. We rely on the following legal bases: performance of a contract, for orders and accounts; legitimate interests, for site security, analytics and improving our products and service; consent, for non-essential cookies and marketing; and legal obligation, for tax and consumer law records. To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.

15. Links to other websites

Our site contains links to other websites, including social media platforms and our Australian store. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites, and this Policy does not apply to them. We encourage you to read the privacy policy of any website you visit.

16. Complaints

If you think we have mishandled your personal information, contact our Privacy Officer first:

Privacy Officer, Edison Light Globes Pty Ltd
152 Cowper Street, Footscray, Victoria 3011, Australia
Email: [email protected]
Phone: +61 3 9396 1421

We will acknowledge your complaint promptly and aim to resolve it within 30 days. Because we are an Australian business, our privacy regulator is the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner. If you are not satisfied with our response you can contact the Commissioner at oaic.gov.au, by phone on +61 1300 363 992, or by writing to GPO Box 5288, Sydney NSW 2001, Australia. If you live in the United States you may also complain to your state attorney general.

17. Changes to this Policy

We review this Policy regularly and may update it to reflect changes in our practices or the law. The current version is always published on this page, with the date it took effect at the top. If we make a change that materially affects how we handle your personal information, we will tell you before it takes effect, by email or by a notice on the website.
